Happy Holidays! Hope you guys are having a great holiday season! December is such an anticipated month that seems to go by so fast. There are so many fun things to do, no matter where you live… But one thing that I’ve realized is that so many activities are geared towards couples or families. If you’re like me, you may be in this chapter of life where it can be challenging to find things to do that are fun but also geared towards “singleness.” It’s important to realize that this chapter of life won’t last forever. I hope and look forward to the day where I may have my once in a lifetime person beside me, maybe even children around me…
But for now, I want to be TOTALLY present and enjoy this time that I have to totally dive into the things that I want out of life. I think after spending so much of my time and energy focusing on other people, trying to maintain relationships that were not the best for me, and hoping things would simply work out, I just want to spend this time filling my days up with things that breathe life back into me. So for all my “single ladies” out there, or just my girls that want to do a few things by themselves (or for themselves), I’ve started a Christmas wish list of things you can do this holiday season to fill your days with cheer.
1. The Angel Tree of Dallas
This is such a cool organization, and it is a great reminder to use our resources to give back to others. These “angels” are children from families that are recommended by schools or social services. They are placed on Christmas trees all over, and people have an opportunity to go by, grab a child off a tree, and help that family buy gifts for their children that Christmas. Here is a link for more information.
2. A Classic Christmas Movie
Grab a girlfriend, or just go by yourself, and head to see the new GRINCH movie! I’ve heard there’s an entirely different spin on this fun classic! It’s important to remember to just be a kid again and laugh at the little things. I’m trying to not take life so seriously these days- you shouldn’t either! Maybe I will talk my sister and nephew into checking this one out with me. Taking an infant to a movie should be easy, right?
3. Christmas Eve Services/ Candlelight Services
I’ve been very open about my faith lately. This chapter of my life has really allowed me to explore and navigate my relationship with God. It’s been incredible to be able to feel refreshed and renewed in this part of my life, especially during this Advent season. Christmas candlelight services are such a special time where bodies of believers gather together to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and it’s done in such a beautiful display the night before Christmas. Many churches pass out candles, sing traditional Christmas hymns, and reflect on their own personal relationships with God in anticipation for the birth of His son, Jesus. Here are a few churches that are hosting some of these services. And if you haven’t been to church in a really long time, don’t let that hold you back! Remember, it’s between you and the big man- church is for everyone!!

4. Christmas Cycling
As I’ve said before, this time of year can be hard to get that sweat in! A Christmas Cycling class is a great way to do something for yourself and your overall health, while having fun in the process. My favorite cycling studio prides itself in strength, confidence, and community! For those of us who are rocking the single life, a dose of that is good for the soul! So after you’ve indulged in your favorite holiday treats (you know I will), hit up this incredible studio for a little Christmas cycling!
5. Volunteer for those who have NOONE.
Let’s be real…. Sometimes it’s easy to get down in the dumps during this time of year and cue to the music to “Blue Christmas.” But the reality is most of us, even if we are single, have someone to spend the holiday season with, whether it’s a sibling, our parents, or a friend. However, there are some people who actually have nowhere to go during the Christmas season. There are some great places to volunteer your extra time and help create a special moment for those people. SoupMobile’s Annual Celebrate Jesus Christmas Gala has SO many different opportunities that call for different needs, talents, and gifts. Check out their website for different days and times that may work for you. Wouldn’t it be awesome to spend our time focusing on the needs of others and remember the gifts that we DO have, instead of what we DON’T? Maybe I’ll bump into you there!
These are just a few GREAT options for those of you that are single during this time of year. Girl, EMBRACE it! Live in the moment that you’ve been given, and learn to appreciate this part of life. It’s the only time that you’ll ever be able to spend your time wherever you want and however you want. I, for one, am going to ensure that I spend that time well.
Keep growing and glowing, Mama. ‘Tis the season to be EXACTLY who you are!
